Training For Pastors In The Church: Here, Albert Mohler discusses the importance of grounding theological education in the local church.  The seminary plays a great role in the education of the aspiring minister, but, in Mohler’s own words, the local church is even more important to the education of the pastor…The seminary can provide a depth and breadth of formal studies — all needed by the minister — but it cannot replace the local church as the context where ministry is learned most directly.

In Honor of Tethered Preaching: John Piper expounds on the necessity of preaching with the Bible as our anchor and lifeline.  The authority of the message is found, not in the messenger, but in the inspired content of God’s word.  Piper writes, The Bible tethers us to reality. We are not free to think and speak whatever might enter our minds or what might be pleasing to any given audience—except God.

Preaching Christ Alone Michael S. Horton.  If our preaching does not center on Christ–from Genesis to Revelation–no matter how good or helpful, it is not a proclamation of God’s Word.
