Charles Spurgeon was, quite possibly, the most gifted preacher the world has ever known outside of Scripture. In a time before microphones and air conditioning, Spurgeon was known to attract crowds of thousands and to faithfully preach to them the word of God, often begging for the conversion of sinners. Would that God should raise up more men like Spurgeon.
Arnold Dallimore’s work, Spurgeon: A New Biography is worthy reading for all Christians to better understand this great many of God who accomplished so much in his lifetime. Dallimore’s work is concise, and as such, is not sufficient to fully understand all of the man that was Charles Spurgeon, but he has done a wonderful job of capturing the man’s life in 250 pages. I strongly recommend this book to you. It will challenge and convict you as you study the life of one of Christ’s greatest and hardest working saints.
If you are interested in Spurgeon, I also recommend Mark Driscoll’sblog series on Spurgeon from Spurgeon is the Man Week.
